Selected, Then Refused: What Happens If the Visa Says No

A visa is a foreign government's decision, not Knomart's. Selection for a delegation can never mean a guarantee of travel, and this is what happens if it goes wrong.

Being selected for a trade delegation and being able to travel are two different things, and only one of them is within anybody at Knomart's control.

Selection is not permission to travel

A visa is granted or refused by a foreign government according to its own rules. No organisation can guarantee an outcome, and any that implies otherwise is misleading you.

This is why a delegation invitation is always described as selection for a process, never as a trip you have been given.

Refusals happen to prepared applicants

Applications are refused for reasons that have nothing to do with the applicant's merit: incomplete supporting documents, insufficient evidence of ties at home, an inconsistency in a form, or simply a stricter assessment than expected. Being genuinely qualified does not remove the risk.

What refusal does not mean

It does not remove your selection, your standing in the community, or your eligibility for a future delegation. It is a decision by one authority about one application on one date.

What actually helps

  • Complete, consistent documents — most refusals turn on paperwork rather than substance
  • Evidence of a real business or role — trading records, registration, an employment relationship
  • Applying early, so a request for more information does not run out the clock
  • Understanding the refusal — the reason given tells you what to fix

Costs, before you commit

Visa fees are generally not refunded when an application is refused, and some travel costs cannot be recovered. Know what is at risk before you spend it, and do not commit money you cannot afford to lose on an outcome nobody can promise.

The rule this sits under

Knomart's promise is access, never a guaranteed result. That applies to work, to programme places and to delegations alike. Selection means the community has put your name forward; what a foreign government does next is theirs to decide.
