If you are going to run your business on someone else's software, ownership is not a technicality. It decides what can happen to your records and who can change the terms underneath you.
The software belongs to the community organisation
Knomart the merchant software and Knozii the member app are assets of Knomart Community, the mission-locked nonprofit. They are not owned by an individual, and there are no shareholders holding a claim on them.
Because the organisation is mission-locked, those assets cannot be sold off to a buyer with different intentions. That is the practical meaning of the lock: the thing your business depends on cannot change hands.
Your records belong to you
Ownership of the software is a separate question from ownership of what you put into it. Your sales, customers, stock and history are your business's records. They are not destroyed if you stop paying, and they are not held hostage to make you pay.
A merchant who drops to the free tier keeps their records and their history. What changes is the capability the business had grown into — the trade apps, the extra users, the deeper reporting — not the past.
Agents and Partners do not own it either
Knomart Partners are registered businesses that sell, implement and support the software. They are a channel, not owners. If you change agent, or your agent leaves, the software and your records are unaffected — the relationship you are changing is the support relationship.
Why this is worth asking of anyone
Plenty of business software is owned by companies that can be bought, wound up or repositioned. When that happens, terms change and sometimes access does. Asking who owns the software, what happens to your data if you stop paying, and whether the owner can be sold is a reasonable question to put to any supplier — including this one.
The short answer
The software belongs to a nonprofit that cannot be sold. The records belong to the business that created them. Those two facts are the reason the rest of the guarantees on this site can be made at all.
