If a paid membership lapses, the member drops to the Free tier. The important part is what stays with you: you keep what you have already built, but you cannot apply for posted work while you are on Free.
You do not lose your journey
A lapse is not the same thing as starting again.
Your Knomart identity and the work you have already done are not treated as disposable simply because your paid membership is no longer active. The current model deliberately changed the old lapse design, where a lapsed member could see less than a stranger.
Instead, the member remains inside the community as a Free member.
What changes after a lapse?
The main change is your ability to apply for posted work.
Free membership allows members to browse the community and opportunities, but Free members cannot apply for posted work. That means a missed payment can temporarily stop you from competing for new opportunities through the job board.
It does not mean your profile suddenly disappears or that your previous progress has to be rebuilt from zero.
Why does Knomart handle it this way?
The Free tier is designed to keep people inside the community even when they cannot contribute for a period.
That matters because financial circumstances are not always predictable. A member may have a difficult month, lose income or simply need to reduce expenses. Removing the person completely would throw away the profile, experience and relationships they have already built.
The current approach is more straightforward: your paid role can lapse, but your place in the community remains.
What should you do if you miss a payment?
First, understand your status. If the paid membership has lapsed, you are operating under the Free tier.
You can continue participating within the limits of Free membership and remain connected to the community. When you are ready to return to a paid role, the important thing is to resume deliberately rather than assuming that a missed payment means you have to start over.
Remember that resuming membership and applying for work are separate steps. The current model has a 7-day wait after resuming before you can apply for work.

You drop to Free, keep what you have built, and lose the ability to apply for posted work until you return to a paid role.
That is an important difference. A difficult month should not automatically mean losing the journey you have already made.
